The closest most of us have come to Scandinavian cuisine is at the café in Ikea. Excellent though those meatballs are, there are plenty more delicious dishes landing on our shores from our Nordic neighbours which are well worth a try! Scandinavian food has seen a 30% increase in popularity in the past five years, and was even tipped as ‘the hottest culinary trend’ last year. Here at Saucy Fish HQ we love the freshness of the dishes, and couldn’t be happier that Brits are catching onto the Scandinavian cuisine trend. Here are some of our favourite dishes:
Cured fish is one of our favourite delicacies from Scandinavia as it’s low in carbohydrates, high in protein and unbelievably fresh! Jansson’s Temptation, more commonly known as Swedish Potato and Anchovy Casserole is a very popular Scandinavian dish made using potatoes, cream and cured fish. If you fancy giving this a try here is a great recipe to check out.
Clipfish is another of our favourite Scandinavian delicacies, if not slightly salty! Usually made with cod, but equally delicious with Haddock. The fish is salted as soon as they are caught at sea then dried once back on land.
Gravadlax is another well-known Scandinavian dish you might have heard of, consisting of raw salmon cured with salt, sugar and dill. It often appears on the menu at top restaurants and is traditionally eaten with mustard sauce and rye bread. If you like the sound of this dish, why not give this recipe by one of our favourite chefs – Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall a go?
